Ways to win
Lotto is the original UK National Lottery game and remains the most played draw in the country. Six main balls are drawn from a pool of 59, followed by a bonus ball that affects only the second prize tier.
This page carries the most recent Lotto result in full, along with how the draw works, the prize structure, the odds of each tier and the questions players ask most often.
How the Lotto draw works
Each Lotto ticket costs £2 and contains six numbers chosen from 1 to 59. During the draw, six main balls and one bonus ball are selected. Matching numbers across your lines determine which prize tier you fall into.
Draws take place every Wednesday and Saturday evening. The Saturday draw is historically the larger of the two in terms of ticket sales, but the game mechanics and prize tiers are identical on both nights.
Lotto prize tiers and odds
There are six ways to win. Matching all six main numbers wins the jackpot, with overall odds of roughly 1 in 45,057,474. Matching five main numbers plus the bonus ball wins the second tier, and the tiers continue down to matching just two main numbers, which returns a free Lucky Dip rather than a cash prize.
Because the jackpot rolls over when nobody matches all six, Lotto totals can build over consecutive draws until they are capped and must be won.
What the bonus ball does
The bonus ball is only relevant to one prize tier: players who match five main numbers plus the bonus ball. It does not help with the jackpot, which requires all six main numbers, and it has no effect on the lower tiers.

The six white tokens above show the main drawn numbers in ascending order, and the flame-coloured token shows the bonus ball. The jackpot figure reflects the advertised total for that draw, and a rollover label appears when the top prize was not won and carries forward.

No. The bonus ball only matters for the “match 5 plus bonus ball” tier. The jackpot requires all six main numbers.

How long do you have to claim a Lotto prize?

Prizes must be claimed within 180 days of the draw date under National Lottery rules.
What is a Lucky Dip?
